An exceptional Worcester potted meat tub
An exceptional Worcester flared oval potted meat tub, with twelve flutes, painted in Chinese famille verte palette with a boat in full sail in a river landscape, and a 'strutting' bird in a river landscape with an empty boat, within particularly crisply moulded 'C' scroll and shell cartouches, flanked by painted flower sprays, each end moulded with 'C' scrolls and a shell, the interior painted with a flower spray, within a flower panelled green diaper border, 7 1/4" wide, circa 1752-53, no mark

This form of potted meat tub is one of the most ambitious and sophisticated models of the early years of the Worcester factory, and was probably in production for no longer than a year, due to the difficulties of firing this model. The current example has survived in immaculate condition,
