An exceptional pair of Chamberlain’s Worcester ice pails, covers and liners

An exceptional pair of Chamberlain's Worcester campana shaped ice pails, covers and liners, each with pinecone knop and two gilt satyr mask and vine loop handles, brilliantly painted in coloured enamels with a continuous band of flowers and leaves. Including passion flowers, on a shaded band, on a yellow ground, and with gilt gadrooned bands, on round marbled foot, 12 5/8" high, circa 1825, each signed 'P.Bradley' in purple beneath

Provenance: Michael Pinney Esq, Bettiscombe Manor, Bettiscombe, Near Bridport, Dorset, sold Sotheby's, on the premises, 25th June 1984 (these ice pails illustrated in the Country Life advertisement for the sale)

This sale included a group of English porcelain from various factories, superbly  painted by Priscilla Bradley, and by family descent at Bettiscombe

The quality of flower painting on these dramatic ice pails is exceptionally fine.

we are hugely grateful to Christopher Coles for his research into these important ice pails
