A rare Worcester plate
A rare Worcester plate, finely painted in coloured enamels in the London atelier of James Giles with a cluster of flowers and leaves, including a 'divergent' tulip, blackberries, and an apple, the irregular pink scale border picked out in gilt and suspending coloured flowers and leaves, the indented border with gilt line rim, 8 3/4" diameter, circa 1765-68, no mark
See Stephen Hanscombe, James Giles, China and Glass Painter, figure 40, for a similarly decorated Worcester bowl, but without the gilt edging to the scrolling. Another plate from this service was sold by Christie's in the 1970's
