An important Coalport London decorated plate

An important and previously unrecorded Coalport plate, superbly London decorated with a tromp l'oeil design of a trade card for J and W Mortlock's, a ten pound Bank of England note, eight George III gold sovereigns, a quill, a purse, a pair of dice and a playing card, a landscape watercolour and other trade cards, on an orange marbled ground, gilt line rim, 9 1/2" diameter, circa 1805-10, no mark

This previously unrecorded plate is an important addition to known examples of London decorated Coalport porcelain. The only recorded comparable piece is a tromp l' oeil plate incorporating the name of the London porcelain dealer Edward Sharpus. It seems likely that the current plate was used by Mortlock's for display in their London showrooms
