A rare pair of Derby figures of a shepherd and shapherdess in Scottish dress, each standing, he wearing a tartan jacket, 'tam o' shanter' and playing bagpipes, and she wearing a matching tartan bodice, and flower painted skirt, each mound base applied with coloured flowers and leaves, 6 1/4" high, circa 1758, no marks

The Dress Act of 1746 made it illegal to wear 'Hughland Dress' in the United Kingdom, making the depiction of such costume on these figures very rare
