A pair of Meissen double gourd shaped vases

A pair of Meissen double gourd shaped vases, each finely painted in coloured enamels with naturalistic birds perched on branches or rockwork, within gilt line borders, 11 1/2" high, circa 1745-50, blue crossed swords marks and each impressed 21

The decoration on these vases is probably taken from Eleazar Albin's A Natural History of Birds, published in London in 1731, and acquired by J G Horoldt in April 1745 as a source for the Meissen decorating workshops
