A superb pair of Chamberlain's Worcester dishes

Provenance:
American Private Collection

Literature:
See G A Godden, Chamberlain Worcester Porcelain, figure 96, for other pieces from this service

A superb pair of Chamberlain's Worcester lobed oval dishes, each painted with the crest of Newton ( a kneeling blackamoor in armour, with a sword), within a gilt panel, the broad orange ground border decorated in gilt with a geometric design, within a gilt leaf scroll and flower head medallion border, 11 1/2" wide, circa 1795-1800, no mark

The quality of the gilding on these dishes, which has survived in mint condition, shows the extraordinary skill of the Chamberlains factory at this date
